The age of big data is proving a boon to business. Assuming, that is, that companies can figure out how to make sense of those huge volumes of information that are flowing into their supply chains and other corporate functions. On the most basic level, there’s the challenge of acquiring, maintaining and updating the storage capability needed to handle this ever-growing input. Then there’s the question of whether modern-day analytics is up to the job of processing the data. On this episode, we discuss the challenges of big data with James D’Arezzo, chief executive officer of Condusiv Technologies. He talks about how companies can avoid steep losses in productivity, along with rising costs and a need for additional I.T. resources, as they struggle to divine consumer taste and the amount of product needed within the supply chain to satisfy it. “The real burden is not data collection,” says D’Arezzo, “but storage, accessibility and performance.”
