The coronavirus pandemic has uncovered some unpleasant truths about the inability of global supply chains to withstand a disruption of such size and scope.
The coming of COVID-19 has made abundantly clear the serious gaps in many supply chains, both for emergency supplies such as personal protective equipment (PPE) and everyday food and household items. It’s a problem of “multi-point failure,” says Mahesh Veerina, president and chief executive officer with Cloudleaf, Inc. In many cases, supply-chain managers lack visibility of multiple tiers of suppliers, preventing them from responding rapidly to a crisis. On this episode, Veerina discusses possible solutions, including the importance of digitizing supply chains and eliminating manual processes. He also discusses what permanent changes might be in store for global trade and sourcing patterns, as a result of the pandemic. Hosted by Bob Bowman, Editor-in-Chief of SupplyChainBrain.
